How to find and redact PII and exposed secrets before sharing a file
Scan supported PDF, TXT and CSV files for common personal information, financial identifiers and credential patterns, review every detected item, and create a redacted copy locally in your browser.
- Choose the PDF, TXT or CSV file you want to review.
- Run the local sensitive-information scan.
- Review each finding rather than automatically trusting every match.
- Select the items that should be removed.
- Create the redacted copy and inspect the result before sharing it.
A practical example
A document prepared for an external recipient may contain an email address, phone number, account identifier or exposed credential. Scan the file first, review the detected items, redact only the sensitive findings you intend to remove, and verify the finished copy.
Common questions
What kinds of information can the scanner detect?
The tool supports multiple personal, financial and secret patterns, including items such as email addresses, phone numbers, credit-card patterns, government identifiers, bank identifiers, IP addresses and several common credential or token formats. Detection coverage varies by format, so manual review is still important.
Does a detected match always mean the information is sensitive?
No. Pattern detection can produce matches that are legitimate document content. Review every finding before selecting it for redaction.
Can it scan more than PDFs?
Yes. The workflow supports PDF, TXT and CSV files. PDF findings can be mapped to document pages, while text-based files use text positions.
Does the file need to be uploaded to a processing server?
The scanning and redaction workflow is designed to run locally in your browser.
Should I still inspect the redacted file?
Yes. Reopen the finished copy and verify that the intended information is removed while required document content remains readable.
